About the silence

Silence is a word, a value, woven into the very fabric of music. How are we to capture such a concept?
Silence is no entity in itself; to define it would lead us into an endless labyrinth. If reality is but a projection, then silence, too, is a projection of its own. In practice, for the performer, it evokes a serene state of consciousness – a stillness, a fertile void, where sounds may settle exactly as they are, pure and unequivocal. The space between them cannot merely be named silence, even when a long pause hangs in the air, as it so often does in the music of Anton Bruckner. Rather, it is the essential space and time to pass from one monad to the next without their mutual annihilation.
